Travel Teams - General Information
Skylands Girls Fastpitch travel teams, “The Pride” are committed to providing players with a rich and fun softball experience.
We are focused on team spirit and providing ample opportunities for
players to further develop their softball skills via advanced
training and higher competitive play in both league and tournament
play. Each of the teams will have the opportunity to compete
for a league and multiple tournament championships.
If you plan to play for The Pride, please know that the commitment
to the team shall run from mid-Spring to July 31st. Players
must be committed to the team and are expected to be available for
practices, games and weekend tournaments 100% of the time (unless
prior arrangements have been made with the team manager).
Each of the
travel teams will participate in the MidState Summer League which
begins in mid-June. League play will typically consist of 2 weekday
games (home and away) for 5-6 weeks followed by playoffs - all
concluding by July 31. In addition, each of the teams will
typically participate in 2 or more weekend tournaments in the time period
between mid-April and July 31 (schedule TBD). Tournaments are
typically within a 2 hour drive. Fall teams will participate
in the Readington Fall League which begins in early September and
runs through the end of October. Games in the fall typically
consist of a weekend doubleheader and teams may elect to particpate
in fall tournaments at the discretion of the coaching staff.
Team activity from February to mid-June will be light to allow for
school and spring league commitments (typically 1 practice per week
and possibly a tournament in April / May). It is recommended
that summer vacations and/or camps be planned after July 31. Team
activity in the fall season starts in late August and runs through
the end of October with teams running optional but highly encouraged
winter clinics.
Each team will carry approximately 12 players but the exact number
is up to the head coach for each team. Being selected to the team
does not guarantee playing time in each and every game but every
player will get playing opportunities.
IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE: The final roster may
not be immediately determined after the initial clinics and
practices. Managers
reserve the right to hold roster spots open in order to address
needed skill sets (I.E. Pitching, Catching).
