What is the Skylands Pride Travel program all about?

  • Skylands Pride Travel teams are competitive teams that compete in the MidState Girls Softball League during the Summer season.  For more detailed information on the Skylands Pride program, team philosophy and player commitment, click here.

  • In short, the Pride is a competitive program for serious softball players.  it is very important that all interested players (and parents) understand the level of commitment required to play for the Pride. 

    During the winter offseason activities and during the spring Skylands and school softball seasons your first priority is to existing sports teams with Pride activites being secondary.  It will be expected that all prospective players attend clinics and practices during the offseason when possible.  However, once the spring season commitments are over, Pride team activities such as practices and games MUST come first.  If this is a problem, playing for the Pride may not be appropriate.

What do we do if our daughter is interested?

  • Interested players (or parents) should contact the head coach for each of the teams

  • Send an email direct to the coach indicating your interest. Include your daughter’s name, birth date, softball experience and any other information you feel is important.

 Who are the Coaches?

  • Coaches for the 2012 season are as follows:

    • 10U = Cindy Macaulay (louvando@earthlink.net)

    • 16U = Andy Fornaro (andy.fornaro@proforma.com)

  • If you have questions about a specific team or age level, please contact the appropriate coach.

What are the age requirements?

  • A player's age on December 31st determines the team on which the player is eligible the following year

    Skylands Pride will be fielding teams at the 10U, 12U, 14U & 16U level for the Summer 2012 season.

    For Summer 2012, eligibility will be...

        - For the 10U team, players must be 10 years old or younger on 12/31/2011
        - For the 12U team, players must be 12 years old or younger on 12/31/2011
        - For the 14U team, players must be 14 years old or younger on 12/31/2011
        - For the 16U team, players must be 16 years old or younger on 12/31/2011

 Does everyone who is intersted make the team?

  • No - rosters typically consist of 12 players.

 Are there tryouts?  How is it determined who makes the team?

  • Depending on the number of interested players, coaches may elect to limit the number of players on the team or potentially field multiple teams at an age group if enough qualified and intersted players are available (and willing number of qualified coaches).  This will depend on the number of available players, the skills demonstrated during offseason clinics and practices.

  • Ultimately it will be up to the team coaches to determine the number of players they want on the roster and how team selection will be made.  It is important to understand that the Pride is a competitive program and the coaches will be looking to field the best teams possible at each age level.

 When will the teams be formed?

  • Offseason programs start in the fall and continue until the summer season begins.  Coaches will determine when final rosters will be announced for each team but typically this is finalized within a few days after tryouts - scheduled for late November & early December.

 Is it already determined who is on the teams?

  • Not entirely.  There are returning travel team players that are very likely to be on each team.  However, the coaches will make the final determination on which girls make each team.

 Is there any additional cost to be on a travel team?

  • Yes.  Each team coach will determine the budget and final cost per player for the team.
